"Storm Clouds"

"Storm Clouds"

This painting stemmed from a quick trip to the coast. The scene was very beautiful and ominous. I'm not sure if I really captured the feeling but these low, dark, overhanging clouds were just hovering over the harbor while this small sailboat made preparations to dock.

January has been a busy month in the studio and some good artistic opportunities are lining up for the next three months. Specifically, exhibit opportunities. I'll post more about it as the details start coming together.

  1. Intrigued about these February opportunities! Also - I think you totally captured the look and feel of storminess in the air - sort of silvery sharp and heavy-dark at the same time. There's also some serious emotional weight to this moment - the suspense of the small craft so close to shore but not quite safe yet!

    1. Hey G! I'll have more details to share very soon... just taking a lot of prep work to get things lined up. You know what I'm talking about! And thanks! The whole feeling of the moment, the scene, the colors... just fit my mood. So I just wanted the colors of the palette to reflect that.

  2. Excellent job! I can't express my thoughts on the painting any better than Two Tigers did (what a wonderful wordsmith!).

Am I seeing a palette shift here? This feels like you've worked a new blue into the mix.

    1. Don!! Thanks so much, brother! You need to visit Two Tigers blog. Wonderful photography to go along with the excellent wordsmithing!!

Yeah, a palette shift towards the more moody side..lol!! You know how phthalo blue can be overpowering... so just very little of that in this one with more cad red light and a lot of white to get those gray hues. Capturing my mood for that day!
